Description: What a redirect is, 301 against 302, and how Xodia writes a 301 for you when you move a published page or folder, in your host's own redirects file.

A redirect sends a visitor or search engine from one address to another, such as from a page's old address to its new one after it moves.

How Xodia writes redirects: when you move a published page or folder, Xodia adds a 301 redirect from the old address in your host's own redirects file, so old links and search results keep working.

## What it is

A permanent redirect, status 301, tells search engines the page has moved for good, so they move its ranking to the new address and old links keep working. A temporary redirect, 302, keeps the old address in search results.

Redirects are usually set where the site is hosted, in a file the host reads at deploy time. Chains of redirects slow visitors down, so each old address should point straight at the current one.

## In Xodia

When you move a published page or folder in the Pages panel, Xodia writes a 301 redirect from the old address in your host's own file: public/_redirects for Netlify and Cloudflare, vercel.json for Vercel, or both when the host isn't known. Older rules are updated so every redirect stays one hop.

The move card shows the redirect before it happens, with Keep the old address working on for pages that were published, and the redirects skill tells your AI the same rules.
